I was about twelve when I set my hands on my first copy of Electronic Gaming Monthly. It was at a local library that discontinued its subscription soon after me getting my grubby hands on its pages. Around the age of 14 I came across EGM once again and while $6 was fairly easy to get once a month the idea of paying around $30/year for a subscription seemed undo-able.

Last year around this time I felt the need to go on Vacation. I had no idea where to go but I just knew that going back home to NY was low on my list. Seemingly out of nowhere the idea of going to 2008′s Penny Arcade Expo popped into my head.
I had always heard coverage of the event being nothing but positive and the thought of being right Continue reading Penny Arcade Expo - I miss you already

I hear Zoe yelling in my ear as we both run full speed towards the skywalk that leads to the safe room. Of the 80 or so words coming out of her mouth like a bad chase of diarrhea, I hear one distinct and horrifying word…Tank. Almost before my mind can process it I feel the telltale rumbling beneath my feet. I toss a Molotov behind me as I continue Continue reading Left 4 Dead - Short but Sweet Zombie Romp

I love when random geekery links hop onto your lap like some crazed bunny and say, “Aren’t I weird but cool as all hell?” I’d vote for a Lego Barack Obama, I’m sure the Lego version’s inauguration would be just as monumental as the real one’s. First plastican president? It would be nuts.

I believe there’s a lot of truly amazing things that can be done utilizing the first person perspective in games but a lot of the old trappings need to be shed. For every game that drives this type of experience forward there’s at least five other games that stick you in a corridor with a gun or a fist to indicate you’re actually a person and not some ghost roaming Continue reading First Person Perspective - Overused or Underutilized?

I enjoy pulling people into the “fold.” There’s something really satisfying about spreading my favorite pastime with friends, family, and coworkers. I take pride in seeing a friend’s face light up as they go from looking at their controller quizzically and actually start having fun. Gaming can be a bit daunting when people are first faced with it, it’s eons ahead of the beeps and boops of yesteryear systems.

Hundreds of my own fans cheering as I perfectly finish shredding through a particularly difficult guitar solo worthy of Hendrix. They all scream for an encore yet I second guess whether my poor fingers would be able to handle it. But their psychotic chants overcome the pain and I signal the band to bust out one more chart topper to satisfy our legion.
Within a blink of my eye I’m transported back Continue reading Social Gaming : The Draw of Rockband
